Thanks to all those volunteers who gave up their time to attend the meeting today. It doesn't sound like there was much drama and I'm looking forward to hearing how the chess development strategy is going to work in real terms.

It's not clear to me what these votes are on

Ben will probably answer in due course but I think he's referencing item 12 or item 13 which concern the budget and the membership proposals.

The top was a hand vote in favour of the Board’s finance proposal. Five members then called for a card vote, which is the second vote.

In all fairness to Chris (and I'm well aware we differ on issues such as OMOV and proxies for ECF meetings) he genuinely impressed me more then anyone else there, and has my full support in his work as Director of Women's Chess.

When he starts bullying people, as he always does, we'll see what happens then.

I actually agree with Chris on the need for constitutional reform although I don't think direct OMOV is the solution. Where I disagree with him very strongly is the role of the unpaid volunteer base and the idea that people who give up so much of their time to make chess happen (I'm not including myself in this) are part of some shadowy nexus determined to hold chess back.The evidence was on the now removed official forum but who can forget Chris' contemptuous dismissal of a titled player and hugely respected coach and organiser just because he dared take a contrary view.

That said he has hit the ground running as Director of Women's Chess and I expect him to do a brilliant job. What he might bring to wider board discussion is more of a grey area at this stage.
