I have received a message from Nigel Short concerning nomination for the post oF ECF FIDE Delegate as follows :

Yes John,
I would like to stand as ECF Delegate. Can you find some people to nominate me?

Can anyone out there in forum land expedite a nomination for Nigel?

We need to move on this quickly people...

I assume everyone knows what the grim default alternative is?

I'll get this discussed at tonight's AGM of the Manchester Chess federation and see if the MCF will nominate Nigel

Someone at my club is the ECF delegate for one of the leagues it plays in, and I've just brought it to his attention.

I will suggest it to my fellow NCCU reps if my memory serves me right the NCCU on block voted for nigel in the last contested FIDE deligate contest

It will be very difficult to stop Gerry getting himself re-elected for this role however

The previous election in 2006 showed the following result:-

FIDE Delegate. Gerry Walsh 121, Nigel Short 81, None of the Above 5.

So the not-Gerry-again camp needs about 20 votes to swing.

Hi John - Looks like you approached Nigel rather than him proactively seeking the nomination. Is that correct? Either way, do you know what Nigel's manifesto is / would be?

I hear you are putting a ticket together for the ECF elections. If that's right, are you at liberty to divulge who else is on it?

Nigel has an account on here and should be encouraged to comment on his plans and why he should be voted for

As Scotlands FIDE / ECU Delegate I must be doing something wrong? Fringe Benefits??? That must be the 22 hours I spent travelling to Greece for the recent ECU meeting (arrive in hotel 4am, meeting at 10:30am, fly out the next day....). I can speak from my own personal experience that anyone who thinks taking on a role like this is going to gain you lots of free holidays, think again!

The ECF delegate is also an arbiter. It doesn't appear that he has much time available for arbiting at British events. However when he does act as arbiter, more often than not it's at a FIDE or ECU event being run in an agreeable hotel in a holiday resort. Some might think that it's a potential conflict of interest to accept such a role (with expenses) at an event when you are in a position to vote as to whether resort A or resort B should be awarded said event.

This was the problem we had in Cleveland Jerry was wearing too many hats he was chairman,president,BCF rep.NCCU rep the changes in cleveland came about because of the NCCU membership scheme the issue was nobody in cleveland knew anything about it from our NCCU rep.Steve and i took on the NCCU reps rolls that encourraged debate and more new people came forward so from a county chess scene that was stagnating we now have a county scene that is slowly rebuilding back to what it used to be.

Delegate to FIDE - Nigel against Gerry! Gerry may have done good things - but Martin Regan has said it all on another thread. Vote for Nosher - oh and Carl, Nigel may be a member - and his posts were a bit over the top - but Gerry isn't and doesn't and obviously never will.
