Full Names of 1960s Players (1965 BCF Grading List)

A middle name (and a good one for a chess player): Philip H Breach was Philip Hastings Breach. Born 25th August, 1920 in Lowestoft, Suffolk. Died 16th November, 2003 in Somerset. He was Cornwall Chess Champion in 1965 (https://cornwallchess.org.uk/html/archi ... cong.shtml).

Thanks, Jon. I spotted Philip Hastings Breach while researching names, but I also noticed a Philip Herbert Breach of similar vintage - born 1918 (Bridge, Kent), died 2008 (Canterbury). While I think 'Hastings' is more likely than 'Herbert' (as the latter doesn't appear to move from Kent) it would be good to connect him to Cornwall in some non-chess way to be sure. From what I can see the chess player was active in Falmouth from the 1940s to the 1970s inclusive but I can't find him chessing anywhere else that might connect him to Suffolk or Somerset.

EDIT: I've just found a marriage for Philip Hastings Breach in Falmouth in an Ancestry family record so that looks like a decider.

I think N R Springall was Norman Robert Springall. Born 31st July, 1922 (Happy Birthday!) in Penge, Kent. Died 1992 in London.

Apparently that game is relatively famous for its tactics and because there is a photograph (in the thread Jon linked) showing Tal calculating the tactics after Black has played Be2.

I think N R Springall was Norman Robert Springall. Born 31st July, 1922 (Happy Birthday!) in Penge, Kent. Died 1992 in London.

Ronald A Fuller - possibly Ronald Arthur Fuller - born 24th April, 1935, in Ipswich; died 23th April, 2023, in Aldeby (Norfolk).

A Ronald A Fuller played in the 1952 British Boys (under 18) Championships, suggesting he was born around 1933 to 1940. His school is listed as Northgate Grammar School, Ipswich (see https://www.saund.co.uk/britbase/pgn/19 ... iewer.html). There are only three births of a Ronald A Fuller registered in England and Wales between 1932 and 1940, and one of those was registered in Ipswich in 1935, which matches the age and location in 1952 well.

John Springall joined the Slough club and played county chess for Bucks for a few years in the 1980s or 1990s.

I must admit I couldn't find any family members of Norman Springall called John. The only brother I found was called Ronald (1921-2003).
Edit: Actually, one of Norman's children is John Springall (born 1953 in High Wycombe).
