I have been reading a bit about chess in the late 19th century. There was a postal match during that time when England beat Scotland and the Scotch opening was played. Does anyone know the year?

I would also like to know when people think the first international match was. Would it be the 1932 Olympiad in Paris?

The Paris event was 1924, not 1932.

The Scotch opening was played by England... I can look up the year later.

1737, in Paris, a book on chess by P. Stamma was published that made use of what rarity for the time?

1747, in London, a chess match was held between F.A.D. Philidor of Paris, France, and P. Stamma of Aleppo, Syria. It was a victory for Philidor by +8, -1, =1. But, what was the final score?

1824-28 saw a correspondence chess match berween Edinburgh and London. The result was +2, -1, =2 to Edinburgh. What upset the London team (besides losing the match)?

1861 saw a match between Dublin and Liverpool - the first by which technology?

1878 the first match took place by telephone, in which English county?

1902 was the first radio match - between what and where?

1912, Stockholm, saw the first attempt to link chess to the Olympic games. Which individual won the chess?

1924, again a chess event was held alongside the Olympic games, in Paris, and FIDE was founded there - by which 15 countries?

1927, London, was the first FIDE Olympiad. Won by which team?

I have heard of the lost olympiad as it is mentioned in the olympiad book, though I have not seen the evidence.

I was referring to matches between countries and have heard it was in the 18th century though I find this difficult to believe.

Correspondence Matches London v Edinburgh. Have a couple of Match books. There is also a trophy, which is on display at the Edinburgh club.
Believe that the last match took place in 1829.

The fifth and last game between London and Edinburgh chess clubs ended 31 July 1828. The match began in 1824 with two games starting simultaneously.
