Mandy Hepworth

Post by John Upham » Fri Aug 21, 2020 1:29 pm

Whilst working on a article about Mandy Hepworth

https://britishchessnews.com/2020/03/12 ... -iii-1968/

I was curious of what happened following Mandy playing in the World Under-20 Girls' Championships in Adelaide.

Megabase 2020 contains no more recent games and the story appears to end abruptly.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

IIRC a while ago I asked what had happened to both her and Susan Caldwell, formerly two of our most prominent women players.

Don't think I got a proper answer......

Sue Caldwell became a professional political organiser and remained in that role for many years.

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

A google reveals someone of that name was contributing regularly to Socialst Review as recently as last year.

I recently wrote

Of course the Hallas in question is the late Duncan Hallas, making it fairly clear it is an SWP operation.

Anyway.......Mandy Hepworth? Anybody got anything??

Yes, Mandy Hepworth is now Mandy Gilmore and she's head of dietetics at the Southern Trust (a hospital in Newry, Northern Ireland). Here's a link to a story with a photo to prove it... http://newrytimes.com/2016/07/14/uk-rec ... ietitians/

Well thank you very much for that, John.

Of course the pesky habit some women have of changing their surname doesn't help in tracking these things down ;)
