Yes, I still remember the look on his face with the Greek economy collapsed whilst he was participating at the London Classic. He was not a happy bunny back then.

Re: Pub Quiz Question
Here is a small clue:
The painting depicts Dora Maar, Picasso's mistress and muse.

Re: Pub Quiz Question
Aha! I was watching a TV programme about that very painting only a week or two ago. I won't reveal the answer just yet.

Re: Pub Quiz Question
Seeing as it's a painting that's gone missing, was it Blake?

Re: Pub Quiz Question
It is time for the big reveal.
The painting in question was
The Weeping Woman (or La Femme qui pleur) painted in France in 1937 and depicts Dora Maar, Picasso's mistress and muse.
"Picasso sold the painting to Roland Penrose on 9 or 10 November 1937. Penrose then gave the painting to Antony Penrose in 1963. The artwork was stolen in 1969 but recovered. It was then placed on long term loan at the Tate. It was subsequently accepted by the Commissioners of Inland Revenue in lieu of tax in 1987. It is now part of Tate Liverpool's permanent collection.
Roland Penrose was the brother of Lionel Penrose who was the father of Jonathan Penrose.

Re: Pub Quiz Question
Yes, I would have got this right had I seen the question in time. Didn't.
'Dr. No' contains chess of course. It also contains sight of a stolen painting. Any idea, Bond fans, who painted it? The painting - clue - has a military and political aspect.

Re: Pub Quiz Question
It was something of an in joke as Goya's portrait of Wellington had recently been stolen at the time the film was made.James Pratt wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:10 pm'Dr. No' contains chess of course. It also contains sight of a stolen painting.
The version seen in the film is a copy (obviously). A google search found this
Was there any chess in Doctor No? The famous scene with Kronsteen is at the start of "From Russia with Love"When Bond is about to have dinner with Dr. No, he is amazed to see Goya's Portrait of the Duke of Wellington. The painting had been stolen from the National Gallery by a 60 year-old amateur thief in London just before filming began. Ken Adam had contacted the National Gallery in London to obtain a slide of the picture, painting the copy over the course of the weekend, prior to filming commencing on the Monday.

Pub Quiz Question
Which mainstream "Hollywood style" film includes footage of an analogue chess clock being operated by two persons in a non-chess context?
