Stephen Quigley rings a bell

Yes I wondered about Simons age but didn't want to embarass him...

There seem to be loads of typos in the original list - where did you get it from?

Richard,
I would be delighted for any help. I did look at the on-line database for names and confirmed some from that and also the FIDE rating list.

Jon,
The list came originally from a Championship programme supplemented and corrected by Britbase. BCM and Chess only seem to give initials in most cases though I haven't been through all of those (Edinburgh CC library whilst arbiting at events there).

It was mainly cut and paste but I will readily accept that some of the typos might by mine.

Everyone,
Thanks a lot. Your help is very much appreciated.

Alex

I have grading lists from the mid 70s onwards: I'll see what I can find when I have a spare moment.

I would bet that Leonard Barden would know quite a few names.

OK. A few more typos:

I think "J Bexendine" (1984) should be "J Baxendine".
"IA Friedland" (1965) should be "I A Friedlander"

1964 Ron Moss.
Dugald McPherson, Julia Park, Danny Shuttleworth, Mark Kerridge, Mina Eaves, Farouk Khan, Julia BAxendine and Stuart not Simon Brown; Simon is SD Brown.

There was a Richard Murphy who played in the U12 European Championships in 1994, where he beat Ruslan Ponomariov!

I've just received an e-mail from Dr Mina Eaves who confirmed that the 1982 U14 Girls Champion was herself and that the 1986 U16 Girls Champion was her sister, Hazel Eaves.

This should be "T Holmes", who I reckon is Timothy Holmes of Kent.

Alfred W J Down birth registered in Greater London Q4 1915 - I would guess this is your man.

There's also Arthur W J Down birth registered in Clutton, Somerset Q3 1919, but he'd be too young.

As I said earlier I'm pretty sure that should be Michael Kerridge.

I have a memory of Irfan Nathoo's sister being called Ayesha.
