Staunton pattern set

Post by John Townsend » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:00 pm

Some of the early Staunton pattern sets were made in "Wedgewood's Carrara" (according to contemporary advertisements in the Illustrated London News). One such set, contained in "Carton Pierre Box", numbered in ink "17" and signed by Staunton, with accompanying book, has been sold for £5,800 (plus 19.5% buyer's premium) at an auction in Carlisle, according to the latest edition of Antiques Trade Gazette.

With best wishes,
