I was glancing at the Western Daily Press for 6th May 1924, and noticed a chess report.
"With reference to the final in the Southern Counties Chess Championship, played between teams representing Surrey and Somerset at Bath on Saturday, one game was played in London. It was between Mr R. P. Michel and Mr A. West (Yeovil), and resulted in a draw. The score therefore, was Surrey 12.5 points; Somerset 3.5."
The newspaper said "half" but I don't know how to do that here...
They almost certainly mean Michell, which is interesting anyway as he usually played for Middlesex, but he did live in Reigate for a time, and later in Kingston.
I have known league matches played at a variety of venues like this, but it is probably unusual for county matches.
Depending on the semi-final results, I wonder if some counties will quote this as a precedent?
