Management of Top Players

Post by John Upham » Sat Jun 27, 2015 12:47 pm

With the welcome news that IM Lawrence Trent has become the manager of Fabiano Caruana...

What is the history of English players managing top players in the past say 50 years?

(BTW, This is not an excuse to spew out old and multiply repeated material about The Times chess correspondant)

I'm inclined to think nil. Would any of the top English players have had managers, other than immediate family?

Kasparov's manager for a number of years, Owen Williams (South African not English and a tennis not a chess player), might bear some comparison to Lawrence Trent if his partnership with Caruana is for real, and sustained for a time.
