That one I do have, in fact, but there is a slight difference in the score I have on Britbase, with the moves 40.Rg2+ Kh8 interpolated, thus...

The version I have comes from William Winter's memoirs but who knows which one is correct?

It seems to take Winter a surprisingly long time to demolish his opponent after 1. d4 Nf6 2. e3 g6 3. Bd3, but you might hope the 2016 event shows a higher standard of play in the British Championships at least.

Regarding the Noel-Johnson v Winter game, I suspect that the extra moves of 40 Rg2+ Kh8 were actually played. Without these moves 43 Rxb7 would surely have been met with Qd1+ winning a rook. It is unlikely that Black would have missed this.

I have now checked through my notes from a few years ago and I see that 40 Rg2+ Kh8 was actually played in the Noel-Johnson v Winter game. I am sorry that I made a mistake when transcribing the game into ChessBase.

I'm only too grateful for your help, Brian, both now and on many occasions in the past. I've updated the file on Britbase.

Incidentally, in the next hour or so I'm going to upload to Britbase a file of games from the British Championship in Edinburgh in 1926, with much help from Gerard Killoran.

Said set-up is not the most dynamic, I quite agree, but a database check reveals it has been played as White by several master strength players including a few modern GMs. After all, none of the moves involved are actually bad.......

The Glasgow 1911 file has been updated...

http://www.saund.co.uk/britbase/pgn/191 ... iewer.html

It now has 30 of a possible 66 games, thanks to two additions and one correction received from Roger Watson, who has been checking for scores in the Manchester Guardian archive.

The additions are Palmer-Blackburne (Rd 3) and Yates-McKee (Rd 11), which now have the substantial part of the scores in each case. Roger also pointed to a very different game score in Yates-Palmer (Rd 4). I believe his new version to be the correct one, and the old one is from a match between the same two players in Bradford, also in 1911. (I have included the Bradford game as a variation.)

Many thanks to Roger Watson for his help in tracing these games.

I notice that the BCF Year-Book of 1912 includes (on page 204) one game from the Major Open section of the 1911 BCF Congress at Glasgow.

Many thanks, Brian. I've added that game to the Britbase file.

I have not found any additional games by Blackburne from the 1911 British Championship so far, but I do have additional descriptive comments on some of the missing games in my book.
