Dan Yanofsky from Canada apparently first met his brother, one J Janofsky, at the Buenos Aries Olympiad in 1939. But I don't think you'll find that Mr J was playing in the Olympiad - he just happened to have moved to Argentina.

Yikes, I have a propensity to misjudge these questions. I felt bad that the question was too hard. Obviously not.

Okay here's a really tough one that google can't help you with.

Which unofficial world champion keeps adding questions to this thread that he thinks are too difficult but are too easy.

Bonus question (super-tough) which league does he remain so deeply proud of despite not being an active member of it for many many years and when he did play in it he wasn't that good anyway.

I know that one. John Simon, the Lord Chancellor. Top Nazi was Rudolf Hess, of course.

Yes, well done, Nick. The meeting took place on 9 June 1941 at Mytchett Place, near Aldershot. It seems Hess also played chess. Does anyone have information about that?
