Look at the space!

Post by Nicky Chorley » Sat Apr 10, 2021 9:40 am

Not a question, but just wanted to share a recent game. Most of my games these days are blitz or bullet, which are not the best but I occasionally play some rapid. I find it quite difficult to play anything longer online and probably like most, sorely miss OTB chess.

Most of my life I've been playing e4 and after a brief spell trying out the English, I've switched to d4 and am getting to grips with it. Here's a 15+10 game I played on lichess where I enjoyed a massive space advantage. My opponent failed to develop properly and it was pretty straightforward to play.

Often White's advantage is based on Black's inability to develop their c8 Bishop. So Black playing something like 10....e5 would pose more of a challenge. If you think about how you would attempt to develop that Bishop as Black, it will help you play the most accurate way as White ( not that there is anything particularly wrong with the way you went about it here).
