Harry Grieve was on 5/6 in Budapest and seemingly coasting to his final GM norm and title, but has just lost to an FM in round 7. Can he still do it if he wins his last two games?

Well, if title norms are available from an event, 7/9 will be enough for one.

He is currently on 6/8 having won his afternoon game yesterday. Provided he can win in round 9 he will get his final norm and title.

Time presumably as lichess shows 35 seconds remaining. That's presumably the time recorded after White's last move and there are no obvious quick moves in the final position.

Has it been confirmed that Grieve will in due course be awarded the GM title?

He has three norms and has been over 2500 so it is now subject to ratification at the next FIDE council meeting after the application is submitted.

Thank you, Loz. I should dig out the historical list and update it. The relative potential of the GM prospects (or rather GM norm holders) got discussed on this forum recently (e.g. Jonah Willow and Marcus Harvey and Brandon Clarke).

Are there any prospective IM or WIM or WGM norm holders for ENG who are close to or on course to complete or progress their title aspirations? Who are the names to watch there over the next few months and years?

He needs to reach 2400.

I shouldn't be surprised if our next two IMs are both currently under 13 years old ...

Then again, it is tough now on older players (anyone who no longer has a K factor between 25-40!). As their level is one of more stable gradual improvement, they are affected more by rating deflation, which makes both the 2400 mark and in general the norms themselves more difficult to achieve. More and more, norm seekers at both IM and GM level should need to be younger (early to mid twenties at the most), with a reasonably sharp trajectory; and the heartening success of Ameet will look more and more like an outlier.
