It's a series of tournaments that run alongside the final leg of the Grand Chess Tour. It's always been in the same venue at Olympia, is that confirmed for 2017?David Sedgwick wrote: The London Chess Classic Festival is organised under the supervision of Chess in Schools and Communities.

Not to my knowledge. I am sure that it will take place, but I don't know the exact dates or the venue.Roger de Coverly wrote:It's a series of tournaments that run alongside the final leg of the Grand Chess Tour. Re: I wanna become a GM
So it should take much money to become a GM....
as I understand it, at least 1600 pounds has to be spend just on London Classic per person

With no guarantee that if you spend the time and money you will acquire those skills.soheil_hooshdaran wrote:I me4an you need time and money to acquire those skills.NickFaulks wrote:And on top of that, a bit of chess skill. Not looking good.
I would suggest the most important requirements are psychological, although as somebody who is about as far away from being a GM as is possible without being a complete patzer it may be presumptious of me.
I suspect the prime requirement is a deep unconditional love of chess and that it is that which makes the effort required seem like fun rather than work.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Soheil - 99.9% of chess players with time & money & talent will never become grandmasters but can still love the game.
It is OK to have ambitions and dreams but you may want to aim your sights lower. Try to become a candidate master or fide master first.
Even if you do not reach those heights you can settle on being a chess addict like most of those posting on this forum.

Not true.Nick Grey wrote:Soheil - 99.9% of chess players with time & money & talent will never become grandmasters but can still love the game.
According to the FIDE ratings site - https://ratings.fide.com/advaction.phtm ... &line=desc - there are 1556 players with the GM title. If that were even 0.1% of all chess players that would give 1,556,000 chess players. I suspect the figure is not far off 1% of all FIDE rated players have the GM title. Note we haven't even got round to trying to filter for time, money and talent.
