Fundamental/Basic weakness?
Hi.
What is a fundamental/basic weakness, as opposed to an advanced weakness?

Re: Fundamental/Basic weakness?
More context - a full quote of the original sentence(s) - is needed to understand what 'advanced' means in this case.

The fundamental weaknesses here would be weak pawns; probably an isolated pawn on d4 or c3. The implication of "fundamental" in this context is that of being hard to rectify.

And what is advanced weakness?
I asked the author for e4xamples and he said a basic (fundamental) weakness is like an isolated pawn and an advanced weakness is like a superfluos piece. I later asaked if basic weakewss is staticx weakess and he said 'could'. no more useful comment.

Re: Fundamental/Basic weakness?
Then I'd say that 'advanced' weakness(es) was being used in the sense of higher level rather than anything else. I.e. the classification of basic, intermediate and advanced books on chess is common.
The exploitation of weak pieces is a topic the author regards as more difficult than the exploitation of weak pawns and therefore is an advanced one.

I don't think there's much of a difference. If your pieces are harmoniously placed, they're more likely to be able to cooperate, that's all.
