This has been a most pleasing thread.

If someone had asked me a few days ago how many Opens I've won I would have said 5 (Bradford 2006, York 2011, Huddersfield 2015, Bradford 2017, Doncaster 2019). Little did I know that I should be counting things like the Huddersfield individual knockout, Idle rapidplay etc. which makes it up to about 50. Now I learn that I should be including internet bullet tournaments. I played in thousands of these many years ago and won a decent percentage and if I had to make a guess it would take my total to well above 500. Who knows, perhaps next time I check this thread I can get it up to 5000.

Peter, I am in the same boat as you; if I quote my open wins it’s on two hands; agree I would never include rapid play, and even more so Blitz; you become an FM/IM/Gm on your standard play results; anybody can be quick using a mouse online and blitz play is generally random at the higher levels

Now without the true evidence I can not verify Charlie’s claim; but saying take his word for it isn’t acceptable especially using it as an advertising campaign; personally I think he has to list all 168 and let the masses conclude his merits

Also pleasing and hilarious

Btw, I am also thinking now setting up an academy and going to say I have won 500 tournament, oh bugger somebody has challenged my claim; well it was a good idea whilst it lasted

More than 168 official Open Victories in a mixture of Standard Play / Rapidplay / Blitz / Bullet.
That's what your sig should say, not plain "Open" because that's misleading. In fact the word "Open" shouldn't appear at all. Given that a large part of the count is guess work anyway, why not just round the total?

This weekend I'm playing in the Frome Open. It's not the Frome Rapidplay, Blitz or Bullet but a FIDE rated standard play at a move rate of 90 30. I think it has higher status than a bullet tournament on some server or other.

... and Lightning according to your list (by which I assume you mean having to move on a buzzer sounding every 10 seconds).

It's clearly quantity that counts, not quality.

I was wondering how many genuine open tournaments I'd won. I remembered 6 straight away, thought of a 7th 10 minutes later, and 2 hours later I've just remembered 3 more, so who knows if there are one or two more I've still forgotten. I also thought of a few questionable cases:

1. Can I count the Guildford Club Open Championship, which I won twice, once as a member and once as a non-member? It's primary purpose is to determine the club champion, but it's also open to non-members and a few did enter when I played in it.

2. Can I count Hastings Christmas and New Year Special tournaments from decades ago which were divided into graded sections of about 16 players per section when I was placed in the section for the highest graded players? I can't remember whether or not I ever won one, but 4/5 may well have been good enough for at least a tie for first place.

This has been compiled at the request of Justin Horton and Roger de Coverly as they attempted to ridicule my Chess slogan of having Won 168 Opens, they were correct – it was more!

To clarify here is a short video to help with clarification of the definition of an Open as determined by the constituent units of ECF / BCF.

Even this is taking it more seriously than me. (humble brag follows...) I remarked to the defending Berks and Bucks champion a few years ago that I had played in the event a few times but never won it, and he produced the trophy from his bag and showed me my name on it.

I have added my White Hat Ethical Hacking Training book to my Immediate Download Portfolio website. https://store.payloadz.com/results/2180 ... ing-course
At University I finished 'Top of The Class' in Ethical Hacking Bsc (Hons) - I am a Private Ethical Hacking Consultant (Internet Sherlock Holmes) in Ethical Hacking, however, I do charge £200 per hour and £100 per hour for Weekly Ethical Hacking Training / Mentorship ---- All students / clients are super confidential. The price should scare most clients off, but do remember my Private services should you need them in the future. £100 1 hour Initial consultation via Skype or in North East England.

Ethical Hacking is when you are given permission by your client to test their Internet facing systems or sometimes combined physical systems and still within UK Law, then submit a confidential report about strengths and weaknesses of their Internet facing resources and some recommendations are made to strengthen the defences. Think of an Ethical Hacker as your Internet Guardian Angel. having a good chess mind aids this process. My Ethical Hacking Book of tips and tecniques and reporting explains better. https://store.payloadz.com/results/2180 ... ing-course

White Hat Hackers essentially try their best to prevent Black or Grey hat Hackers; I am of course DBS Checked and part of the DBS Yearly update Service.

The Super Human Chess Engine is available for download here, which is the main document used for my 3 month chess course at www.Chessclub.com https://store.payloadz.com/results/2180 ... ing-course

Anyone wanting to be part of my Security Testing Team, who is suitably qualified is invited to contact me to become part of our IT team at Chess Team GB ltd.

All other potential partners who would like to become our Official Partners are welcome to view the entrepreneurial opportunities here;

I am off to Mallorca tomorrow for a Chess Tournament to carry the flag for Great Britain.

A few days after the 10 day Mallorca trip I will be helping out the ECF Juniors In Romania as part of the England Team (not the Great Britain Junior Squad).

Follow my Mallorca games live at Chess24.com starting 730pm most days.

I am looking forward to playing in one of the strongest Opens in Europe and picking up an IM or GM norm.

Should be a great event and I will be scouting there as a venue for The World Tour.

You Tube Channel has now been created for Great Britain Junior Squad with an information channel just for parents.

I will be posting Parent information videos there next week.

For Queen and Country!
