... we can go back to the question of the 112 counties ...
If you can make head or tail of the document here (which is referred to here) you might have your answer.

Rows 150 to 342 of the spreadsheet has a list of counties and various other regional areas, with a fair bit of overlapping of regions. It includes regions of the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands (both as a group and individual islands), countries and counties including "Yorkshire", "West Yorkshire" and "West Riding of Yorkshire" (as well as several other entries for other parts of Yorkshire).

Yes.
Does that really rank alongside, say, the Thanet Open? As a closed event, would the Civil Service event have qualified for the BCF Grand Prix of that year

As a closed event it's patently not an Open.

God yes, that's fantastic, especially the reincorporation of Ireland into the United Kingdom.

I will continue the Countdown tomorrow if you wish or you can simply accept I was truthful all along.
Why not go away and come back when you have a complete list for us to look at. Until then, it's a waste of everybody's time.

"Does that really rank alongside, say, the Thanet Open? As a closed event, would the Civil Service event have qualified for the BCF Grand Prix of that year"

No idea what BCF rules were. In CS championship, there were about a dozen regions, and two qualifiers were allowed from each region, each region had to have a minimum number of competitors (although that was ignored the first year - 1991), and you had to be a member of the CS Sports Council, not just someone who had been employed by Civil Service. CSSC would happily allow an ex-CS member to play, (if they had retained CSSC membership)but someone who had worked for CS for 20 years, but had allowed their CSSC membership to elapse for 6 months and one day, would not be allowed to play ever again. But that description should go on a long time...

I think Charlie was graded about 170 and scored 5/5, beating several 180s on the way, one of them very quickly, so it was a very good result, in quite a strong event. But in the 20 or so years of the event, Andrew Ledger was the only titled player to participate, winning both times, once with 5/5. He and Charlie were the only two to achieve that. So, it wasn't as good as the average Thanet Open, but it's not the same as a small club event.

Arguments about what constitutes an "Open" could go on. It may be the wrong argument. A county championship is not "Open" and in many cases would be stronger than a weekend "Open". Every time I won a CS event, I considered myself the best player in the CS, even though some guy working in the Benbecula hospital was unable to compete in the event...

Its not a made up figure I did this research about 7 years ago got the save point and counted from there - Once again Justin Horton your assumption is incorrect. its getting to the point where I may have to stop responding to your questions and statements.
You don't actually answer all questions you are asked, which is ok, it's a forum, you can choose, but it is rich to suggest that you do

Ok, you are good at chess, better than most of us, fine; you're not as good as some; you have lots of enthusiasm, great; you're not great on the detail; you're not unique in chess in my experience in that

It might very well be, but it was Charlie and not his critics who chose it. Perhaps he should choose another one, when he finally has his list sorted out.

Never played the proper Civil Service championsip, but I did win the national HASSRA title once.

I have proved my point on what the ECF classifies as an Open.
Yeaterday I proved I had won over 25 Events

You can do your own research now if I scored 5/5 at Hull and 5/5 at York in recent years....Happy to offer a 2 Game Blitz Challenge at Chess24.com if they have the time to compile the list and if they draw or win either game, or one of their nominated representatives- if they beat me they can have one of my first Chessbase.Com FRITZTRAINERS called THE WHITE SNIPER...Released next month.

I have an organisation to run now and I think most people can see its now becoming obvious I have won at least 168 Opens and I have proved the term in the ECF definition.

I will now limit my responses to those;

That have apologised for attempting to attack my integrity then been proved wrong by the video I sent.

Genuine questions that are not stealth attacks from competitors organisations.

Are clearly not Trolls, Cybercowards and asking stupid questions.

If I do not respond to your direct questions it is because I have classified you into one of the above and you are not worthy of my time.

Dont take it personally, my time is precious and I have no time for stupidity. I am here to help Junior chess, so should you.

A principled approach that will doubtless prove invaluable when seeking sponsorship.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for classifying me as good at Chess, not the superlative that my Chess CV deserves but I will take it.

I think Trading Standards can clearly see that my claim of 168 Open wins is valid...Ask him Matt Bridgeman I mean I have proved already most of it and compiling it before Internet times is quite difficult...To help with your research you could contact Graham Marshall. Gerry Walsh, John Wheeler. Lara Barnes.
Graham Marshall and John Wheeler will validate at least 70 Open victories from a mixture of Classical, Rapidplay and Blitz that I participated in that they organised .

No, just a comment. Some potential sponsors are indeed idiots, but in my experience thay do not generally respond well to being told that.

It was a lower claim many years ago when the Sniper book first came out. I don't think you have proved 168 "Opens". If it's an exact figure you have to be able to list them and it's already established that the total would include Rapid and Blitz events. That you win a couple of tournaments a year isn't disputed. Quite a few players do that.

I assure you, if they are idiots they will not be allowed to partner with this organisation, however much money they offer.
We are all about good ethics and transparency and I think I have proven that on here despite many difficult questions and clear troll attacks that we are here for the clear benefit of Great British Junior Chess.
