Re: You Tube Chess Instruction
These Championship games are indeed excellent.
You are on a good run so don't want to spoil it but I too
would love to see you get your teeth into a junior game.
Perhaps when it's all done and dusted.

As far as the junior game goes, I will try to cover the ' Littlewood' prize game winner, judged by Paul Littlewood, at the end of the event.

Great job on Jones-Bates. Weak square complexes, disruptive tactics, over-adventurous play while underdeveloped, Larsen's Reversed Dutch legacy, the latent strength of the e5 advance etc. etc. - so many themes expertly covered. Most commentators would take a week or more to prepare something of that quality. Much appreciated Andrew.

Hello Andrew,
Many thanks for your analysis in the commentary room and the games of the day, which have been very instructive on the whole.
However, did you consider the marathon game between J Hawkins v D Howell last night? Wouldn't that game be instructive for not giving up/chess stamina/converting a win (Hawkins not Howell). It seems that most of the game of the day during this year have involved the same sort of players, whilst I find enjoyable, musing over someone else would provide a different perspective for us patzers!
Cheers,
Paul

Re: You Tube Chess Instruction
Perhaps that one could be video-annotated as game of the tournament??! Whatever the quality. would certainly qualify as a titanic / see-saw struggle. And if it was the game that got Hawkins a GM norm...
Re: You Tube Chess Instruction
I do have some sympathy for what Paul and Austin have requested. The problem is that You Tube imposes a 15 minute limit on the videos, which means that I am limited as to the type of game to choose. Throughout the event I've found myself rushing to complete a 30 move game, let alone a marathon of 100 moves plus! I would have liked to have covered all of Hawkins-Short, Hawkins-Howell and Jones-Pert, but splitting it up into 3/4 segments is a bit too much.

Thanks for coming back Andrew. I do appreciate the lengths you go to, to get the games out and there are restrictions around your time.andrew martin wrote:I do have some sympathy for what Paul and Austin have requested. Re: You Tube Chess Instruction
Hi Andrew,
Very good videos, some very quirky openings which are tempting to play.
I was watching the 'Not for scholars video' and was particularly impressed as it seemed a original and dangerous way for white to approach the bishops opening.
So i put the variation into fritz but it seems to offer some more possiblities for black.
1. e4 e5
2.Bc4 Nf6
3.Qf3 Nc6
4.Ne2 Bc5
5.d3 (as played in the example game)
..d5 seems to refute the variation
6.exd5 Bg4
7.Qg3 Nb4 and black is better.
Other options are hard to find for white.
e.g. if
5. 0-0 0-0
6.d3 still.. d5
or
5. 0-0 0-0
6. c3 na5
or
5.0-0 0-0
6.h3 d5
7. exd5 e4
So it looks as if white has to settle for
5.0-0 0-0
6. Nbc3 Na5
7. Bb3 c6
8. d3 d5
Where black looks to have equalised.
Does this refute 3.Qf3?
