Mr Dodgy Invitational 2 2021

The Mr Dodgy Invitational 2 takes place online on Chess24 May 12th - 16th 2021. This 16 player KO blitz (5 minutes no increment) tournament has a strong field. Simon Williams, Peter Heine Nielsen, Nils Grandelius, Jorden van Foreest, Daniil Dubov, Vidit Gujrathi, Alexei Shirov, David Howell, Laurent Fressinet, Pepe Cuenca, David Navara, Baadur Jobava, Peter Svidler, Anish Giri, Baskaran Adhiban and Alexander Grischuk. Anish Giri won the event last year.
David Howell beat Jorden van Foreest 7-5 in the first round and plays Vidit next in the quarter final

Daniil Dubov beat Simon Williams 6.5 - 0.5

Navara recovered from a 9 move loss in game 2 to beat Abidhan

Black's 8th move there is a bit of a shocker for sure.

Even if I didn't see Qg4 I'd be reluctant to allow Nxg7 and would prefer 8....Bxf5, Nb4 or Qxd5.

David Howell lost 7-5 to Vidit who plays Jobava (who has beaten Grischuk & Navara) in the semis

Other semi is Giri v Dubov

I missed yesterday. Doing something more important, but it looks as though it was really exciting.

Referencing another thread, I think Jobava is an example of a genius, also of why that isn't sufficient to be a world top player.
