So far, so good. Nineteen moves played and Shreyas is a pawn up with a healthy lead on the clock (56 minutes against 14). Still a long way from a win but a promising start.

His opponent has found a nice cheapo regaining the pawn on move 22.

Game drawn by perpetual albeit black would have probably played on with more time.

Pity, it looked like Shreyas had a decent position and was ahead on the clock

After 31 ... Qh5+, Shreyas can, and probably did, claim a threefold repetition since he intends 32 Kg2.

Yes, I meant he probably wouldn't have taken perpetual.

At least he did draw, and while that might not mean much now, it still does matter, since rating points are valuable too.

As for the +1 assessment in the opening; well, is that a Stockfish thing, this being the machine which specialises in inhuman defence? To my human eyes Black always had practical play for his pawn.

Another excellent result, surpassing his Grand Swiss performance. Shreyas is clearly at home against 2600+ opposition and on a trajectory to being a very strong GM.

Nonetheless, we should not ignore the biggest star of the event, who was his 13 year old rival Ivan Zemlyanskii. One to watch!
