The 2024 FIDE World Championship between Chinese defending champion GM Ding Liren and his Indian challenger GM Gukesh Dommaraju will take place in Resorts World Sentosa, a resort complex that includes Universal Studios Singapore, on an island off the coast of Singapore. The luxury venue will also host a $75,000 international open during the match.

On July 1, FIDE announced that Singapore would host the $2.5 million Ding vs. Gukesh match, while today, they announced the exact venue of the event that runs November 20-December 15.

I have fond memories of Singapore Chess Club, having visited Singapore on a work trip. After work night out with pizza and beer, I stumbled upon the club in July 2019 and spent a few hours afterwards playing.

It does, and I played three of them in a blitz tournament the first time I went there.

Indeed their first titled player - Tan Lian Ann - became an IM over half a century ago.

It's hard to think of Singapore on the map in the chess world. I don't recall any major events ever being played there before. And as anyone who has been there will tell you, its not very big.
