European Chess Super League: A New Pinnacle of Club Chess

The €500,000 investment by Super Foundation will underwrite the inaugural European Chess Super League, a prestige club team competition scheduled for 2026. Bringing together eight elite clubs from across Europe and beyond the Super League is designed to be the most ambitious club competition in the history of the ECU.

How will this differ from the top 8 teams at the European Club Cup? Essentially the teams are likely to consist of hired stars from around the world, the strength being in proportion to the depth of the team sponsor's pocket.

When Wadim Rosenstein funded the first World Rapid Team Championship, it was won by Wadim Rosenstein's team. I note that this event includes "the organizer’s team". I suppose we will have to wait and see if that actually means "the sponsor's team".

It seems to be a spin off from the European Club Cup

Elite Participation: 8 clubs, including top 4 finishers from the European Chess Club Cup, the highest-rated club, the organizer’s team, and two ECU wild cards available to any club in Europe and worldwide.

I wonder how you would define "highest-rated club". Perhaps just take the highest rated team from the previous Club cup that didn't finish in the top 4.
