I'd much rather have a series of 16 or 32 player knockouts over the calendar year, with some sort of points system where the leader at the end of it becomes the World Champion.

It's not completely what I hoped to see, but definitely a significant positive step.

It's going to be a busy year then, given there's the World Cup in September too, which also has qualifying places for the Candidates, and the Grand Swiss too in the second hlaf of the year
