Live ratings (January 2019)

Post by Christopher Kreuzer » Sun Jan 27, 2019 10:36 pm

Couple of questions from looking at the Live Ratings for January 2019:

https://2700chess.com/

*Is Carlsen potentially going to pull ahead as undisputed world number 1 again? 16 points clear at the time of writing.
*Will Giri finally soon get to the magic 2800 level? (Currently at 2797)
*Kramnik has 'only' lost 24 Elo points and 'only' dropped to number 15 in the world (dropping 8 places)!
*Mamedyarov's loss of rating points is similar (if less spectacular, 3 losses and 10 draws): losing 27 rating points but 'only' dropping 2 places (starting from a much higher level than Kramnik).

Turning to England players:

*Adams is slowly creeping back up the list, but still 'only' 2706 and world number 37.
*Is Sadler the least active player in the world top 50?
*Jones is stuck in a drawing rut, and Howell isn't doing much better.

Only winning three games in a row?

That wasn’t one of the questions ;)

To be fair, at least one (possibly two) of those wins were after I had posted that.
I'll concede that winning three games in a row is going in the right direction...

Kramnik announces his retirement.

Finishing on 7.5/10 and 3rd=. A very good recovery from the round three blunder.

FIDE now have a 'Live' rating list on their site when you click on the ratings page. This has the top 100 players and not just the 2700 club.

I would like to tell you how the events which are rated "live" are selected, but I do not know that myself.

By the way, if you are wondering whether the information which you actually want is still available, you only have to scroll down. That fooled me briefly.

So does chess2700.com, under the 'Top100' tab.

There is certainly a difference between the two lists. Maybe due to different events being selected, or maybe the FIDE site is just not being updated so quickly. However chess2700.com has in the past mistakenly included events that were not FIDE rated.
