Re: World Teams 2019
I am curious about the SF assessments in Gawain's game which were often very high for White, over +1 and even closer to + 2, without any clear breakthrough for White - more space, more active position and a weakness to aim at on c7, sure, but still no immediate way to covert all of the above. Is SF looking some 20 moves ahead when it gives +2, and unable to tell us why? Even more surprisingly, it recommended Gawain's pawn sac with ...f5 which basically did not give Black all that much activity and ultimately just seemed to save White the trouble of finding a long term breakthrough.
There is still a human element to ...f5. What I find particularly interesting is that the generally conservative SF recommended it too.
Anyone able to explain the assessments which led SF to endorse ..f5?

The USA have gone down to Azerbaijan, which is presumably good news for our medal chances.
We should perhaps note that we still have Iran to play as China. Can't overlook Iran these days! They won a game against China today but still lost 1.5-2.5.

Russia 9
India, England 7
USA 6
Iran, China 5
Russia yet to play India (that will be the final round), and both have to play USA

Speelman plays against Iran. Is Gawain Jones not well? Or just needs a rest? Very interesting to read GM Arkell's previous comments about Speelman.

Possibly a played-my-preparation-in-the-wrong-order experience for Adly, here?

Also in that match, Fawzy (IM 2461) has a big advantage after 14 moves against Bu (GM 2731).

Hard to imagine that Gawain would want or need a rest if he isn't unwell.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

Much of the early action is on Jon Speelman's board where he seems likely to go down without a fight.

Unfortunately, I think Speelman missed that he would lose the c-pawn - thought he could protect and get 2 pieces for a rook if it were taken.

After Rxc4, what does Black play?

Plot twist. White forgot what pawns can do, apparently.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 9:41 amPossibly a played-my-preparation-in-the-wrong-order experience for Adly, here?

I didn't try to analyse it but I assumed .... Nd5, knocking the queen off c4 - eg Qa4 b5 or Qc5 Rc8Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 12:06 pmAndy Stoker wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 10:22 amUnfortunately, I think Speelman missed that he would lose the c-pawn - thought he could protect and get 2 pieces for a rook if it were taken.
