Carlsen-Topalov and Karjakin-Grischuk finished in almost identical positions.

Ding looks likely to lose today, which doesn't happen very often. Giri also having another bad day at the office.

Ding did lose (as did Giri). Interesting way to get a knight trapped.

Good to see Shak drawing with Carlsen. Thought he might have still been upset about the mate in 49 he missed yesterday...

Wasn't it his opponent who had the mate in 49 though?

Yes indeed, I misread the tweet, what I should have said is that its fantastic that Navara beat Ding today after missing a mate in 49 and a mate in 27 with one minute to go yesterday!

Why did Mamedyarov resign yesterday? Am I missing some forcing line?

Giri in trouble vs Carlsen today. Tomorrow is Karjakin-Carlsen, I'd be surprised if that wasn't a fairly dull draw but maybe Sergey can show something.

Giri crushed, seems a while ago now from when he used to rib Carlsen about his personal plus score.

Karjakin doing well. He couldn't (over the next year or so) mount another challenge for a second chance at the world title, could he?

You may have jinxed him judging by the one sided nature of his loss to Carlsen today

It does rather look like Magnus is over his 2018 mini-"crisis" doesn't it.

Taking up a new opening is always a good way to revitalise your game. Given that so far nobody seems to have any answer to his Sveshnikov it's slightly surprising that there haven't been obvious signs of others following his lead.

Perhaps give it time - there are lots of other forcing lines that do not involve 7.Nd5, which would need to be learnt. Carlsen had time and assistance with these others lines last year, and he used to play the opening some years back anyway, but I would imagine that even other strong GMs might want to hesitate before trying to imitate him. It may be that some lines lead to draws too, which might not suit GMs who play non-elite events.
