Re: World Cup Knockout 2019
I did manage to work it out by a process of elimination; white clearly hadn't opened 1.e4 or 1.d4, so it was probably an English, with the c3 pawn being the original b-pawn.

First two rapidplay games drawn - Ding looked to have acquired a significant advantage in the first but it vanished as both players found themselves short of time. Instant reactions are always risky but the second game looked less dramatic.

Plausibly the more important result of the two

He has to play in the Candidates now, surely?

You think he might duck the opportunity? I doubt it.

Of course, he *should* be the wildcard if he doesn't otherwise qualify.

As stated here https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... hallengers Nepo or Grischuk will be the obvious choice if not qualifying normally, otherwise it could be a toss-up between MVL and Mamedyarov.Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 8:21 pmOf course, he *should* be the wildcard if he doesn't otherwise qualify.
