I did manage to work it out by a process of elimination; white clearly hadn't opened 1.e4 or 1.d4, so it was probably an English, with the c3 pawn being the original b-pawn.

First two rapidplay games drawn - Ding looked to have acquired a significant advantage in the first but it vanished as both players found themselves short of time. Instant reactions are always risky but the second game looked less dramatic.

As stated here https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... hallengers Nepo or Grischuk will be the obvious choice if not qualifying normally, otherwise it could be a toss-up between MVL and Mamedyarov.
