The line given by SF as -2 for Black in Luke's game still seems to end in a book draw, so don't despair

Some pretty average technique there, as they say on the cricket commentary

They have both drummed up some play, at least

And SF likes their positions the more it has time to assess them

Shame for Gawain - he played a really nice game for quite a while. Knight promotion in Luke's game, knight promotion fans.

you know, I hadn't seen that trick before in Luke's game (1...Rc1+ with the point 2 Rxc1 b2+ 3 Kb1 Kb3) and it looks to be worth remembering.

Luke is Black in the next as well, is this deliberate, to nullify the "always having advantage of White first" ?

So what would WE play against the Caro-Kann is a must-win world cup speed eliminator?

For some reason Chessbomb is now showing the score for Yuffa v McShane round five when you try and look at Yuffa v McShane game four!

Awesome blunder from Luke to lose game seven

He made three oversights/blunders - I don't suppose he meant to lose the pawn on d4, he was even better before he later lost the pawn on h5, to a one move check; and that was before his whole queen got trapped.

So he seems tired, and that perhaps is the most worrying sign - of course he can cope with being a game down by itself.
