I'm sure there was a similar pseudo-Marshall innovation in the Lopez a few years ago but I can't quite remember what it was, let alone what happened to it
Gaweski was the man the variation is usually named after, but others including a younger Carlsen played it.

It ran 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Bb3 d6 8. c3 O-O 9. h3 Na5 10. Bc2 d5

I believe the eventual verdict is that Black doesn't get quite enough and it doesn't seem to feature in more recent years. I only ever played it once during its fashionable period over ten years ago. My opponent had prepared for it because of its then popularity and we reproduced for a handful of moves, the game Adams v Carlsen from the 2007 World Cup.

Wins today for Luke and David, draws for the other two. The chessbomb Stockfish reckons there was a winning idea in the Adams ending, but it would have been extremely lengthy to compute, even assuming it works.

Looks like an impressive team performance vs Sweden. It's just a shame the time-scrambles/games in general are less fun to watch with the delay.

Agreed. Also positive that all five players have a win.

Gawain was especially impressive, I thought.

Well, all the tough teams yet to be played of course, but still very good today.

Who is next?

Adams has drawn and Gawain looks likely to fairly soon. Luke should win easily, which will leave David needing to draw for the match. It's Rook and opposite Bishops each, but Van Den Doel has an extra isolated but passed pawn, Chessbomb's Stockfish gives about 0.4 as White's advantage.

Great recovery by the team, since Adams was worse against the in-form Giri and Luke was busted but turned it right round with plenty of help from his opponent. Gawain is a dead draw and David should be able to hold.

match win looking very likely then; perhaps L'Ami had missed that after 36..Rxe6! 37 Qxe6 would be answered by ...Nf2+ and ..Rxg2+. That's quite a Luke-like win (with black) - including the initially miserable Stockfish assessment (but Luke plays v humans).

Can it go on like this? Great fun today, anyway!
