Withdrawing in protest from a knockout is not particularly problematic as these things go; the only participant it harms is you yourself. It's different doing it in an all-play-all or a Swiss, where your action can have knock-on disruptive effects.

Re: FIDE Online Olympiad 22 July to 30 August 2020
The Armageddon is Poland v Azerbaijan was a horror show. Note 44...Ra2?? instead of 44...Nd3+ winning immediately and 59...Ra2+?? missing 59...Nc3+ with a draw and what would have been victory for Azerbaijan.
Socko, Monika (POL) - Mammadzada, Gunay (AZE) 1-0 FIDE Online Olympiad Knockout Stage 2020 round 2-06QF-Armageddon
As we know the Armenians withdrew after their Appeal in the first match against India for losing on time due to a signal failure was turned down. Bit strange this one. Apparently, the basis of the Appeal was that there was nothing wrong with the Armenian Internet signal which was proved to be stable and that it was the Chess.com platform that was defective. However, that was not enough to sway whoever it was on the Appeals panel so the Armenians threw their toys out of the pram and left. Totally agree with Richard and Mick above, they should have accepted the decision and played the second match.

India are half a point ahead, so why a play off? (I must be missing something, not having read the rules, because I had the same question yesterday).

Match points only count. So 3.5-2.5 and 6-0 counts the same.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 11:56 amIndia are half a point ahead, so why a play off? (I must be missing something, not having read the rules, because I had the same question yesterday).

This has probably been covered elsewhere, but how are the armageddon players determined? For example, Poland seemed very keen to field Monika Socko (though I can't think why, since - I think - I once beat her at blitz on lichess) but that can only work if the opposing team is equally happy for their woman player to step up to the plate?

I believe the rules are that the Armageddons are determined on the women boards.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 12:38 pmThis has probably been covered elsewhere, but how are the armageddon players determined? They draw by lots between the Open, Women, Juniors, Girls i.e. you can get 1 of the 4 possiblesJonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 12:38 pmThis has probably been covered elsewhere, but how are the armageddon players determined? Ukraine v China was Junior (Kirill Shevchenko v Liu Yan)
Hungary v Germany was Open (Banusz v Wagner)
Poland v Azerbaijan was Women (Monika Socko v Gunay Mammadzada)
