The 128th New Zealand Chess Congress started this morning (for juniors) and the 1st round of the Championships and Major Open are currently underway.
Plenty of info and links to pairings and results (via VEGA) here:

Are you playing along with Helen Milligan?
I've noticed the New Zealand Chess Congress and Championships are taking place in Christchurch next year.

Hi Simon
No, not playing Congress this year, I last played in 2017 in Wellington. One of my kids has a big athletics comp next week which took priority.
Yes, the 2022 edition will be in Christchurch, organized by the Canterbury Chess Club.
Very similar lines to this year's event. Open, Major, Junior, Rapid, Lightning and hopefully some other ancilliary events. Just trying to lock in some final details and we will publish in full.
Hopefully the world is in a better state Covid wise and we can get some international visitors as well as a good turnout of local players.

The Aussies managed to have their Australian Allegro Championship annual (15+2) tournament with 50 players. Only a couple interstate, presumably due to the rules down there. A bit below their usual 100+ numbers, but it still looked a decent event as it always is;
