So could be a van Foreest v Giri play-off, great for the locals.

Yes Mutual results are all draws and I think the SB favours the Dutch

Esipenko wins, which means Donchenko finishes at least a point clear at the bottom. I guess he missed his big chance against MVL.

It should also mean Carlsen finishes sixth - when did he last finish a tournament in such a low position?

Giri agrees a draw. Apparently this guarantees a play-off against Van Foreest because Firouzja cannot improve his tiebreak sufficiently.

(Meanwhile Duda agrees a draw and leaves without ever really making a mark of any kind.)

After heroic defence by Wojtaszek, was 53...Qc6 just an awful blunder?

Looks like it.

Just seen something saying the play-off is starting at 18.10 CET which is 17.10 for UK

My guess was that he somehow overlooked, in the way that you do under stress and in time pressure, that the Bishop on a5 would be attacking his rook on d8.

Anyway I went out to do a quick chore after that move and am amazed to find the game still going on.

Well Wojtaszek now has a better position than before he blundered, amazing.
