GCT Paris Rapid and Blitz: 18th to 22nd June

Post by David Sedgwick » Wed Jun 16, 2021 3:30 pm

The GCT Paris Rapid and Blitz follows on almost immediately from the Superbet Chess Classic.

Rapid: 10 player Round Robin from Friday 18th June to Sunday 20th June. Three rounds each day, at 1300, 1430 and 1600 BST. Time Limit: 25 minutes plus 10 seconds increment.

Blitz: 10 player Double Round Robin on Monday 21st June and Tuesday 22nd June. Nine rounds each day, commencing at 1300 BST and at 30 minute intervals thereafter. Time Limit: 5 minutes plus 2 seconds increment.

The drawing of lots is tomorrow, Thursday 17th June. I won't post the list of players until then, just in case there have to be any last minute changes.

Rapid Pairings: https://grandchesstour.org/2021-grand-c ... gs-results, or http://chess-results.com/tnr566110.aspx?lan=1&art=2.

Blitz Pairings: https://grandchesstour.org/2021-grand-c ... ts-blitz-a and https://grandchesstour.org/2021-grand-c ... ts-blitz-b, or http://chess-results.com/tnr566111.aspx?lan=1&art=2 and ?.

The pairings for the second cycle of the Blitz have yet to be uploaded onto Chess-Results. They are the same as for the first cycle but with colours reversed.

Nice to see Radjabov continuing from where he left off.

Reversing the usual analogy, MVL - Radjabov could be compared to the sort of soccer game you wonder why you are watching.

To be fair, some of the other games have offered brilliant entertainment.

edit : moving to a different analogy, Radjabov was playing an offside trap and misjudged it by five yards.
