Squad lists are now on chess-results:
England open team at full strength or thereabouts.

1 GM Howell David W L 2658 ENG 410608 0,0
2 GM Adams Michael 2716 ENG 400041 0,0
3 GM Mcshane Luke J 2676 ENG 404853 0,0
4 GM Jones Gawain C B 2657 ENG 409561 0,0
5 IM Haria Ravi 2497 ENG 415820 0,0

Ravi is in the reserve slot and presumably with an excellent chance to reach 2500 and the GM title.

The Women's team is well down the seedings.

1 WGM Toma Katarzyna 2254 ENG 1119907 0,0
2 WFM Head Louise 2090 ENG 424773 0,0
3 WFM Emelianova Maria 2113 ENG 4196961 0,0
4 WFM Bayat Shohreh 2091 ENG 12501018 0,0
5 WCM Varney Zoe 1937 ENG 436135 0,0

The board 3 isn't a name I'm familiar with.

She's on the ECF rating site as Battersea and on the FIDE site as previously of Russia, but not active in OTB chess for many years.

As well as a strong player, she is a successful chess photographer and streamer. She was interviewed on the Perpetual Chess Podcast. I believe she now resides in London

Also a good friend on Ian Nepomniachtchi!

There are also teams in the Open (only) from the other "home" nations, which are the three bottom seeds.
34. Scotland (RtgAvg:2263 / TB1: 0 / TB2: 0) Captain: Burnett, Andrew
Bo. Name Rtg FED FideID Games

2 IM Muir Andrew J 2254 SCO 2400138 0,0
3 FM Morrison Graham 2251 SCO 2400090 0,0
4 CM Bremner Adam 2204 SCO 2400847 0,0
5 FM Burnett Andrew 2163 SCO 2400855 0,0

35. Ireland (RtgAvg:2216 / TB1: 0 / TB2: 0)

2 FM Jessel Stephen 2297 IRL 628859 0,0
3 Nemeth Zalan 2177 IRL 2512041 0,0
4 WIM Kanyamarala Trisha 2082 IRL 45004722 0,0

36. Wales (RtgAvg:2120 / TB1: 0 / TB2: 0) Captain: Garcia, Jason

2 CM Kett Tim 2156 WLS 1801210 0,0
3 Garcia Jason 2028 WLS 1801775 0,0
4 Pleasants Allan J 2001 WLS 411337 0,0
The Irish team is composed of three teenagers (one of whom has gained about 100 rating points this year in Hungarian tournaments) and Stephen who lives in France. He has three IM norms but never yet managed to get his rating to 2400. Hopefully he can get some good results and start building up his rating again.

She's on the ECF rating site as Battersea and on the FIDE site as previously of Russia, but not active in OTB chess for many years.

Google says - M. Emelianova, chess photograpfer, chess journalist, chess streamer .... ********
You can find a chess podcast on google from May 2021, where she explains, to play for England is for her more realistic than play for Russia , because in Russia she is seed 5000 among men and 100 among women. But still it is only estimate . She speaks, she didn't play chess more than 20 years.

https://www.perpetualchesspod.com/new-b ... emelianova

If you check her online results , she plaid online British Qualifications and Championshs - she archieved in this tournaments Rp 1737 ( Arora T. 1889) , Rp 1541 ( Oh J.2531, Arora T.2298 ), Rp 1921 ( Dicen I. 1998 ) , Rp 1921 ( Pert N.2083), Rp 1531 ( Arora P. 2470 ). In the brackets you can find results of the best English under 14 players in this tournaments .

The first time l see nomination for so important tournament like ETCC is, which stays on such on basis. And I'm interested in chess quite intensely. Is a shame, that something like this happened just in ECF.

I wouldn't be too harsh on the TRP comparisons. There's a couple of off-camera fishy ones in there! Also, I think I Dicen is Under 17 ECF and Under 16 FIDE possibly.

It's a complete shame. ECF is not referred to these practices. Show to the world, that ECF can not play ETCC without 34 years old player with 20 years old 2113 Fide rating. Well done. Olympiade 2022 is behind the doors...

I correct it. I.Dicen is Under 17 ECF and Under 16 FIDE. But nothing changed...

Andrew Muir pointed out on LinkedIn that he has been selected for Scotland for six decades now: 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s , 2020s which is very impressive though I'm guessing not the longest ever for a player to be selected for their country?

Portisch is the only one I could find who's played in Olympiads in six decades, though there are one or two who would have joined the club had there been Olympiads in the 1940s.

On the contrary, on the podcast she stated her connection to the UK was visiting friends in London. Her Twitter feed lists her residence as Ekaterinburg. Assuming club membership needs to be “validated” through playing games, it is not clear she would be eligible for selection in the county championships-even putting aside the lack of ECF membership.

There was some disquiet about the selection of Ingrid Lauterbach a decade ago. But “visiting friends in London” as eligibility seems on another level versus that.

Also, the grading list shows neither Maria nor Ravi Haria to currently be ECF members. Is membership of the Federation not a pre-requisite for selection?

In a couple of bio's it says "now lives in London" - but perhaps these are outdated?

If that's true I agree, that someone who is not English, and not living in England should not play for England.

She was living in the UK but returned to Russia when Covid struck and hopes to return as and when things get back to "normal".

Her Instagram feed also shows predominantly Russia based pre Covid. I recall she was involved in the 2020 Candidates in Ekaterinburg as she was based there.

Perhaps no one ultimately cares, but the ECF really should have explicitly defined eligibility criteria based on residency permit or citizenship, plus membership of the ECF.

Or we should "reconfigure the chess trust" and pay players to join our federation - as is the fashion
