David's king is probably a bit embarrassed to have been placed centre stage.

I'm not sure how Kevin managed to get such a dull position, given the risks he took in the opening.

I see knowledge of the new idea in the Milner-Barry gambit is spreading.

Thanks Lawrence, but it was slightly more complicated than that...

The third placed players were also the winners of Veterans' prize, top rating prize and junior prize, which were all rather more than a share of 3rd. So they received the bigger amount, and happily for the talented players (and me) who scored 5/7, 3rd prize was shared by the 8 players who finished 6th=. Prizewinners also receive a 3-month PRO Chessable membership.

Guernsey CF is always fair to its players. I can think of a few tournament organisers who would have saved a few quid!

Prizegiving and Festival dinner took place at the rather splendid St. Pierre Park hotel, which also hosted a Guernsey sporting organization's dinner (in a different room). None of the chess players displayed ugly tattoos reaching from ankle to mid-thigh.

That will teach me to copy and paste from the official tournament website

Do we know which game of David's won the brilliancy/best game prize? He may be too modest to say himself.

[David] may be too modest to say himself.
That is a highly improbable scenario.

It was my game on Round 6, against the extremely promising 7-year-old Ethan Pang, which has already been the subject of favourable comment on this thread.

I hope that everyone watched the game nonetheless.
I'm sure you do. Very impressive.
As it was on a live board by coincidence, it can be viewed at https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tourn ... 2022/6/1/7

My thanks to Mark Hebden for judging the prize and to Harriet Hunt for demonstrating the game at the Prize Giving.

The silican monster was less impressed with the game than Mark was.

I was sitting next to Mark at the dinner and he said he really liked the game, then asked the computer what it thought (of all the games), and noticed it wasn't so keen. However, yours was still the best game.

Going from handing them out as arbiter to winning them

Fun game. The computer online isn't so rude about it? Never worse and always going in one direction which is all you can really expect these days, I would think.

Perhaps a miss round move 20 - the apparent best line on move 23 would have got you searched for electronic assistance :)

I suppose if you aren't a fan of c3 Sicilians, it was a dull opeining, leading to a position where Black self destructed.

When computers can start making judgements like that we'll really have to worry :)

concur it is a nice game. I have to admit in a similar final position in online blitz I once got away with Kg8 followed by Nh6, kh8, qg8+, qg8, nf7...

Well as somebody who very much *is* a fan, such games are part of that opening's attraction.
