157-16 in favour of Dvorkevich if I heard correctly.

AD wins 157 - 16. Wow!

Yes, a landslide for Vladimir Putin. What a disaster for FIDE.

Well you might be right, but FIDE member nations seem to think otherwise by a margin of nearly ten to one

Skolkovo Foundation. In fairness, it is an important thing. As we have observed previously, FIDE President is arguably a step down for Dvorkovich.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 7:49 amI heard PHN mention about US sanctions being applied to a Russian organisation that Dvorkevich was or is involved with but didn't catch the name so wasn't sure of its significance.
I found PHN much more persuasive than apparently the average FIDE delegate did, at least in respect of transparency. But he did not quite have me here. I see the argument Dvorkovich had only just left the scene of a crime before the police arrived, and it looks suspicious. But as far as I know, he is still is not on a sanctions list.

I suppose that has to matter, but I really don't see why the US Treasury should have power of veto over who is FIDE President.Paul Cooksey wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 11:07 ambut as far as I know, he is still is not on a sanctions list.

I think the general feeling in the room was that Baryshpolets didn't really want to do the job, or have any idea how to, and PHN certainly not. Just wished to give Russia a black eye.
Many federations with impeccable anti-Russian credentials voted for Dvorkovich.

If they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Baryshpolets, could they not at least have abstained?NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 3:44 pmMany federations with impeccable anti-Russian credentials voted for Dvorkovich.
From Andrey Filatov, President. Russian Chess Federation:
"Congratulations to Arkady Dvorkovich on a brilliant win. The Russian candidate was supported by a record number of delegates, showing that there's no isolation of Russia in the world."

Is it a secret ballot, or will we see detailed results?

There's 157 federations chose not to abstain, is it not possible to ask non-rhetorically why they did not do so?David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 5:00 pm

Re: Presidential Election 2022
From what I saw of the speeches (and from Peter Nielsen on Twitter) the Baryshpolets/Nielsen campaign was overwhelmingly negative and didn't, dare I say, give sufficient indication of competence to run FIDE. The Dvorkovich/Anand ticket presumably benefitted from having the much-respected Anand as candidate deputy President, the more so with a well-run Olympiad taking place in Anand's home country. It's telling, isn't it, that a ticket fronted by two Europeans polled only 16 votes when there are, I make it, 56 European member federations (or 54 if Russia and Belarus are discounted)?

Presumably the reward for being the first president for about 50 years to be both competent and not corrupt to the core. FIDE federations doing what democracy demands and voting their best interests.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.
