Sheripov was on the aborted Kirsan ticket four years ago.

I find this a bit of a puzzle. Kirsan was clearly seen as a Russian government puppet and yet Sheripov is being nominated by Ukraine.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 11:01 amSheripov was on the aborted Kirsan ticket four years ago.

No more puzzling than a lot of chess politics, arguably.

I always felt that was a ill informed Western myth. Presumably the Ukrainians, who were closer to the action, saw matters in the same lightAlex McFarlane wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 12:31 pmKirsan was clearly seen as a Russian government puppet and yet Sheripov is being nominated by Ukraine.

You're going to be disappointed. Fumey and Fancy have failed to submit the required nominations for their ticket so are not candidates for election.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 10:01 pmI am personally looking forward to the public debate between the rival candidates for the position of Deputy President, Vishy Anand and Stuart Fancy.

The ECF have nominated Baryshpolets, That doesn't commit the ECF to voting for him in the election. An ECF Board member to whom I spoke this evening confirmed that the Board had not yet considered the matter.Paul Cooksey wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 6:30 pmI am happy to see the ECF supporting Baryshpolets/ Nielsen.
in 2018 the ECF nominated Short, but voted for Makropoulos (and would have done so even if Short had not withdrawn).

Re: Presidential Election 2022
The Kouatly/ Wilkinson ticket certainly seems worthy of serious consideration.
I have seen Ian Wilkinson QC at a couple of World Senior events; he is a very distinguished lawyer, I believe. Although unlike two of his rivals for the Deputy President position he is not a leading GM, he seems to have a lot more experience of chess organisation than either of them.
I am hoping the Irish Chess Union will give its members some indication of how it intends to vote and maybe have some consultation. For the first time in many years Kevin O'Connell will not be our FIDE delegate.

Presumably Twitter has decided to support Baryshpolets in this election.

Re: Presidential Election 2022
It is interesting that Peter-Heine Nielsen is getting involved in FIDE politics. I have a vague memory of him and Anand working together at some point (on chess, rather than chess politics and organisation).
It is very good to see more people stepping forward. Are there excellent organisers out there that may have been put off trying to put their names forward, or is it really the case that most of the organisation gets done at committee levels and the big names and the President and VPs only really influence the bigger picture?

That seems very odd.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 10:16 amPresumably Twitter has decided to support Baryshpolets in this election.
Fortunately, I had downloaded the link prior to the suspension. Here it is:
https://dvorkovichteam2022.com/
I have not seen anything to suggest that Baryshpolets or Neilsen had anything to do with the suspension. Neilsen had been busy criticising the quality of the website.
Neilsen had pointed out a glaring omission from the list of supporting Federations at https://dvorkovichteam2022.com/#support.

I think you need to be careful here. It is hard to see how FIDE could operate independently of PlayMagnus with Magnus' closest colleague in a very powerful position. That can have significant advantages, but they come at a cost.Paul Cooksey wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 6:30 pmI am happy to see the ECF supporting Baryshpolets/ Nielsen.
