"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

An excellent tournament so far, particularly today. I consider it unfair to say, as the official bulletin does, that

"Day 4 of the Superbet Chess Classic Romania was projected to be another eventful day and it did not fail to disappoint".

Hah, the classic double negative in action.

The problem is it's a triple negative. Did not, fail, disappoint.

Many thanks to Mick and others for their contributions to this thread. I shall try to be more evident for the future GCT events.

Round 9 today (Saturday 14th May) starts one hour earlier than hitherto, at 1200 BST. The round will be followed by any necessary playoffs.

I see that the two French players and two of the four USA are playing in the last round.

I assume that MVL and Firouzja are working together in the run up to the Candidates

Not sure about the Americans

So? That would normally be precluded only in official events.

Forty to fifty years ago, that would have been a valid assumption. It is not necessarily the case nowadays.

MVL had said he would if he didn't reach the Candidates himself
