First time in India? Combining it with travel sounds a great idea, but you have to have the time (and money).NickFaulks wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:32 pmIt was the most wonderful Olympiad. It is not easy to play well while having such a great holiday, that's my excuse anyway.
I could not believe that I was voluntarily coming back here. Olivia set off after Round 11 to travel around India, she got it so right.

No, by a very long way, many of my best memories are there. Monetary cost is negligible, far less than maintaining a simple residence in UK. So why do I live in England? I ask myself that.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 7:03 pmFirst time in India? Combining it with travel sounds a great idea, but you have to have the time (and money).

The attraction of the evening chess leagues? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)NickFaulks wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 7:26 pmNo, by a very long way, many of my best memories are there. No, seriously that is #1. Wetherspoons is #2, after that I'm struggling.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 7:33 pmThe attraction of the evening chess leagues? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

A shocking revelation from GM Nigel Davies on FB.
"Just one piece of advice for Olympiad captains - they should show genuine interest in how their team is doing. A lot of them gave the impression that they were only there for the free trip and refreshments..."
For info, Nigel was the team captain for the Barbados women's team.

I was just reading on Twitter about the Kyrgyzstan's interesting journey home:
Alexandra Samaganova
@ASamaganova
You know what!? It is the 12th of August, and we are still not at home thanks to the "amazing" organizational skills of our Kyrgyz Chess Federation
We stayed in Delhi for 2 days. Now we are in Tashkent (UZB). We are trying to arrange a bus to have a 12-hour trip back home to Bishkek.

Perhaps they should just stay there until 2026.

Am I right in thinking next is Budapest 2024 then Tashkent 2026?

Freddy Gordon and his mum have been self isolating since last Friday so I'm not sure when they will be allowed to travel home.

Yes, that's right. Hopefully there won't be the multiple changes to location that occurred this year, albeit it sounds like it was a great success in the end.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:20 amAm I right in thinking next is Budapest 2024 then Tashkent 2026?

Not quite right, actually. 2026 will be in Uzbekistan but not necessarily in Tashkent. However, a decision as to the exact location will be taken before the end of this year.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:29 amYes, that's right. Where does that information come from? Everything in their bid said specifically Tashkent.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 12:06 pmNot quite right, actually. 2026 will be in Uzbekistan but not necessarily in Tashkent. From the presentation which Alisher Sadullaev, President of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, gave on the second day of the General Assembly,NickFaulks wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 12:41 pmWhere does that information come from?
