The computer reckoned she was practically level (with best play) for a few moves, but if there was a clean draw I didn't see it.

Two creditable draws for Wales today against Estonia.

Pleased to see both England teams won
Yes, and we will know much more about well each team will have done tomorrow. England will likely play someone close to their own strength for the first time in a while (they have arguably started every match so far as small to large favourites, save against Armenia). The women have played more teams who are stronger than them, and have lost to them all quite comfortably - but then again, they have 100% in the other matches, albeit all against weaker opposition. So they might now play an evenly matched opponent for the first time. The consequences for their final positions, and the summaries of how their events have gone in general, can hardly be overstated.

Is it a last round fight between India, India 2 and USA for bronze then?

(And have the top five teams mostly played each other by now? I know that India 1 have not played India 2, though I don't recall them playing USA either).

David's still going to be rested though.

Ukraine - six wins and four draws - are the only unbeaten side left in the women's, while the late drama in India 2 v Uzbekistan meant the latter remain uniquely unbeaten in the open.

Niger and Gambia don't seem to have played today: have they packed it in early or was there another reason? Niger are one of only two teams i nthe open to be without a match win, the other being the British Virgin Islands. (The ringer-heavy US Virgin Islands side have terrorised the competition, currently standing 175th.) In the women's competition the only winless sides are Sierra Leone and the Seychelles, all of whose game points, save defaults, have been scored by the same player.

Women's standings are very close at the top

Board prizes are close apart from Kiolbasa on board 3 who would be 8th on the Open list

I am sure I should know this, but why are Armenia listed before Uzbekistan?

A win against Moldova, which is certainly possible, would leave England with a result above their seeding.

He transferred from England to Ireland on 24/1/18 and became eligible to play for them on the 25/1/20 according to the FIDE site:

421669 Murphy, Conor E IRL ENG 2018-01-24 2018-01-10
Last FIDE event: European Youth Team CC 2017 - Open Section
Citizenship IRL
Date of eligibility
to participatein the FIDE events under the new flag 2018-01-25
Transfer fee Euro 1000
Date starting from which a player
can represent the new federation fee free 2020-01-25

All the best to Tarun today who needs to win for a GM norm.
Thanks, Lawrence, I stand corrected.
I see from the FIDE ratings site that he was born in 1999 and he made the big leap forward to 2300+ in 2017.
I've never spoken with Conor so I wasn't aware of the transfer.
Good luck indeed to Tarun but his opponent today is an IM. He will need to met a GM in the last round or else no norm is possible.
Ah yes, good spot. That will teach me to not to check before posting.
Tarun drew, and unfortunately Ireland play Tajikistan who don't have any GMs

Apart from Norway, the other top 10 seeds have reappeared on the top 10 boards ( ENG were seeded 10).

Am I right that in theory England could still come first in a tie that could include as many as 9 teams on 17 match points? And would 17 match points be a rather low winning total for 11 rounds?

(It is unlikely both the Netherlands and Spain will win, but not impossible as both Armenia and Uzbekistan may need to press for certain results depending how the other match is going. It is also unlikely, IMO, that India and USA will draw, but again not impossible.)

It will certainly be a very tense final round!

"(The ringer-heavy US Virgin Islands side have terrorised the competition, currently standing 175th.)"

I get the impression that it is perfectly OK to use ineligible players as long as they are not very effective. If a team suddenly fielded 4 strong GMs from elsewhere, then maybe somebody would care enough to do something.

Only Gambia have packed it in early. Owing to travel issues, they departed from Chennai today, thus missing the last two rounds.

That left an odd number of teams in the Open and Niger had the bye. They are playing tomorrow, when British Virgin Islands will have the bye.
