For the record, Firouzja and Nepomniachtchi tied for first on 5/8. Firouzja won the playoff.

Niemann finished 7th on 3.5/8.

But let's not forget that he actually scored a highly creditable result ( even ignoring the disgusting circumstances ) of 4.5/9.

When you lose a game, you can't just expunge your opponent's victory by running away.

Can I assume that Niemann will get the rating points for that expunged game?

You certainly can, and he will take them off Carlsen.

Expunged games do, in general, get rated. (With obvious exceptions such as the game's being expunged for cheating.)

"Cheating in Games" hmmm... 8) :D

I´ve written in defence of a guy who was found guilty of being signalled to the top prize on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? via an accomplice coughing whenever he mentioned a right option -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brea.../dp/B09 ... ref=sr_1_1...

Here´s a summation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbBSDREP6f8

In our book we also wrote about the French guys found to be cheating at the 2010 Olympiad.
But unless you have VERY CLEAR EVIDENCE for extraneous communications you should not vote Guilty. In the absence of evidence for outside influence the Guilty verdict was reached by allegations of a pattern of coughing whenever Ingram mentioned the correct option. One of my PhoneÁ-Friends, ex British champion, William Hartston, is still of the opinion Ingram (SOMEHOW!) cheated. But also that prosecution did NOT make their case. Hartston thinks the coughs were some auxilliary, back up mechanism which played little part or no part at all in how the answers reached Ingram in some or other bent manner.
BUT there IS an innocent explanation for those coughs! As an indication of how just playing well in itself renders you suspect, please look at my guest, Grandmaster Stuart Conquest, who was ESCORTED out of the studio when I got to 250,000... because he MIGHT, have been signalling! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvZWjzwXbGc

Lastly, and to bring us back to the event itself, here´s the only other GM in the world to have made it on to Millionaire? commenting there last week !

Tell you what, if you were cheating you wouldn't miss the tactic here
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Agreed but I wouldn't have expected a 2620 to play a howler like 13...Qa5 in that position either, the tactic with Nxd5 is very well known in all kinds of openings.

Yes, you've mentioned before how you've spent two decades shadow-boxing on Major Ingram's behalf. It's easy to make the evidence seem overwhelming when no-one cares enough to argue against you. C.f. the Flat Earth Society.
