IIRC it was not allowing officials to search his footwear that gave the authorities the "evidence" they needed to finally ban him.Brian Egdell wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 1:09 pmInteresting legal analysis, but is the guest speaker ("one of Youtube's resident chess experts") whom this legal expert chooses to feature in the video quite such an authoritative source? When I listened to "Gotham Chess", who I understand from other sources is an American International Master, stating that Borislav Ivanov "was found with a device in his shoe", I started wondering if a new lawsuit might be launched as a result of that statement. Granted, the circumstantial evidence against Ivanov was overwhelming, but I didn't think anything quite that concrete was ever found in his case.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 6:00 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkd1Q0Ntt9s

Norwegian Rat
I'd assumed that this book was dedicated to Vidkun Quisling.
Do you think it should be re-dedicated?

Carlsen resigns on move 2
I am not sure it merits renaming the thread
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Reuters report that Chess.com are making filings to the US Federal Court to get Niemann's lawsuit thrown out. The basis of their argument seems to be that Chess.com haven't said anything defamatory and as Niemann is a confessed cheat you can't believe anything he says.

I wonder whether we'll get to trial.

Of course not! Just Niemann's annoying attempt at deflection.

I hope so, because this does need to be brought into the open, but his lawyers look to be handling it poorly. If this went to CAS I think he would win, but perhaps their fees would be less.

Unless I missed something, their 6 weeks deadline passed without any updates...

Is the 6 weeks from the (24 Feb) publication date of the statement? If yes, then I make it there's a couple more days to go (until Friday 7 April). (Am eagerly awaiting the outcome.)
