I wonder how Magnus feels to have books written about him. I am assuming he hasn't endorsed it?

Is the 6 weeks from the (24 Feb) publication date of the statement? If yes, then I make it there's a couple more days to go (until Friday 7 April). (Am eagerly awaiting the outcome.)
The self-imposed deadline has passed without any updates from FIDE.
Probably FIDE does not want any cloud over the world championship, but they should have though about timing when issuing the last press release 6 weeks ago.

I’ll be amazed if they sanction Carlsen in any serious way.

Am I right in thinking FIDE's report on the Carlsen/Niemann incident is still awaited?
Meanwhile, Hans Niemann has just scored 7/9 in the Menorca Open to come joint first, having played some rather nice games albeit not against super-strong opposition.

Is publication still awaited? (The search facility at fide.com doesn't seem to work on my phone.)

Looks like a FIDE delay till October, with the hope the civil suit reaches a conclusion. Is it going to be an eye-watering amount to pay for Team Magnus, you’d have to wonder at this point? https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/04/spor ... rlsen.html

That's a good find. For those of us who can't get into the NYT, could you tell a bit more?

I think everyone gets one free view, so I’ve lost mine.

The trick of searching for the headline finds this, amongst others.

The Niemann team has raised the issue that FIDE has deals with the Play Magnus group and could therefore be biased.

Carlsen has just failed to win a classical game of chess in a tournament for the first time since (I think) 2006.

Hi Matt,

Close, I had no idea. One of the Carlsen watchers at chessgames.com has come up with 2007 https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chess.pl?tid=62218

I cannot find mention of who is liable for costs in this '$100 million' lawsuit.
