Askild Bryn and Odin Blikra Vea are conducting a chess marathon with the goal of setting a new world record by playing blitz chess repeatedly for 61 consecutive hours. They started at 09:00 today. The event is taking place in Stavanger simultaneously with the Norway Chess tournament. Guinness World Records will verify the world record attempt for the Longest Chess Marathon.
Who they are:
Askild Bryn and Odin Blikra Vea are chess experts with ratings of 2129 and 2123, respectively. In addition to their achievements in the chess world, they also run the podcast "Sjakksnakk," where they discuss chess-related topics and share their passion for the game.
Why they are doing this:
They aim to set this world record to promote chess as a sport and hobby and to challenge themselves to reach new heights in chess. Additionally, they hope to increase interest in chess in Norway and internationally by conducting this marathon simultaneously with Norway Chess, one of the most prestigious chess tournaments. Through the world record, they also want to highlight the fight against breast cancer and are raising funds for the Breast Cancer Research Group at Stavanger University Hospital https://www.spleis.no/project/371235.
On behalf of whom:
This attempt is organized by Askild Bryn and Odin Blikra Vea, in collaboration with Guinness World Records, Chess.com, and Norway Chess. They also have support from various chess communities and enthusiasts who share their passion for the game. The entire record attempt can be viewed worldwide as it is being live-streamed on chess.com and https://www.twitch.tv/chess.
A large delegation from Norwegian TV2 is here to cover Norway Chess. We will break the world record in the same venue as Norway Chess, in Finansparken in Stavanger, Norway, on Tuesday, June 4 at 10 pm local time.
Magnus Carlsen and official judges from Guinness World Records will be here. We invite you to attend and cover the event. We hope this information covers what you need to create an exciting news story. Please let us know if you have any further questions or need additional details. I would appreciate your feedback on whether you will cover this world record.
Best regards,
Sadiq Adam Dahir - Project Manager 93880609

I played both of them at Gausdal (20 and 21 years ago) and they are both nice people. I really hope they do it. Of course someone here could try to beat it...
