So does that make Haslinger Board 5 for the Olympiad team?

The selections will be made in May but bear in mind there are games from the 4NCL and Bundesliga (that have yet to be rated) to consider as well. This will affect the majority of players on the list.

Is it also safe to assume that ratings alone will not be the only determining factor?

That's correct. Activity, form, past results etc will also be looked at.

Is there another rating list out before the selection?

Is the squad 5 or 6 players?

Hi Mick,

Yes the next list is in May and the selections will be made in time for the May 20th deadline for registration of teams. Leagues such as the 4NCL & Bundesliga won't be rated until July but the results will be considered by the selectors.

It's a squad of five players, four of which will play each match.

I'm in the process of contacting all the players to establish who is available and by then I'll hopefully know what funding is available and if it's possible to send the strongest team.

Gawain Jones has just finished second in the Sydney Open with an unbeaten 7/9 and a 2668 performance, apparently gaining 15 rating points which seems to put him ahead of Stewart Haslinger.

Haslinger currently has 3/8 for Trier in the Bundesliga (see Loz's comment above), with his final round game (viewable live, go to TWIC, click Bundesliga live then click Eppingen) about to start.

Sadly the Eppingen link doesn't seem to be working although the other three are. Michael Adams and Luke McShane are also playing for Baden-Baden and Bremen respectively. My hope is that the Bundesliga may be rated in the May list as today is the last round. That would just leave the 4NCL that won't be rated until July. Needless to say I'm keeping a close on eye on the Easter events to check they are rated in time.

Any update on this?

Hi Mick,

It's ongoing at the moment. The ECF finance meeting is next week and after that I'll know if I require additional funding to invite and hopefully field the strongest team.

In the fight for board five, as it will be if we have enough money to send our clear top four, the yet-to-be-included 4NCL results do not make much difference. They slightly (but only slightly) help, or at least are not harmful to Hebden and Williams, and are somewhat unfavourable to Haslinger (0/1) and Conquest (2/4 but including the unforgiving pairing of Black v Adams) - but even here, nothing that a good final weekend would not fix ...
