The European Chess Super League brings together eight of Europe’s strongest chess clubs to compete for a prize fund of €300,000. The event will showcase world-class talent, thrilling matches, and a commitment to sporting excellence and innovation.
Key Features:
Elite Participation: 8 clubs, including top 4 finishers from the European Chess Club Cup, the highest-rated club, the organizer’s team, and two ECU wild cards available to any club in Europe and worldwide.
The European Chess Club cup is usuaally won by one of the teams whose sponsor has deep pockets to hire the world's best players. Won't this new venture be more of the same?
Chess is rather more like franchise cricket in that respect than football where the hired mercenaries do at least have to play together on a regular basis.

So much so that it is even creeping into International team chess with federations essentially buying strong players from other countries.

I suspect so, my initial interest did fade when I saw how the teams would be selected:

Mine didn't, since I was never going to care which team won it anyway. If I'm not doing anything else I may tune in, in the hope of seeing some good games between top players.
