Juniors players can have such jumps in one season. Carlsen went from 904 to 1907.
One of the cubs from my team, Raghuram Parasur went from 742 to 1794, an increase of 1052 in one season.

An amazing rating gain, but I think really exraordinary jumps like these are due to the initial rating being dramatically deflated. I would guess his true strength at the start of the year was well over 2200.

Yes, an Indian player starting to play in Europe, so likely underrated compared to his European opponents. Also, a junior with a k-factor of 40.
The test will be whether he can maintain his rating, wherever he plays, because he's likely now overrated compared to his true strength, as a result of the way the rating system works. That will be particularly challenging if he plays in India against underrated opponents.

I don't think of these cases as ratings gains at all. During his stay in Bosnia he played 18 games on one rating period, so his new rating was in practice a complete recalculation.
It is strange how such norms seem to happen almost exclusively in one region of Europe.

I have to admit that when I saw his photo I hadn't realised he was still relatively young and posted the link thinking he was some sort of adult improver.
