With that kind of prize money and candidate qualifiers thrown in, it should be a good turn out.

The top four win places in a 224 player event. Have I got that right?

Yes. Up from 0 in a 206-player event in 2025.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 11:17 pmThe top four win places in a 224 player event. Have I got that right?

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss 2027
It would be unlikely that the top 4 in the Grand Swiss wouldn't already be qualified for the World Cup in some other way. Perhaps more to the point, assuming the top 4 are already qualified, how will the now spare places be allocated? If they remain in the Grand Swiss, players some way down the finishing order might now get World Cup slots.

This will be covered in the World Cup regulations, but IIRC the Grand Swiss will happen early on in the process, i.e. before rating berths and so on.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2026 2:59 pmIt would be unlikely that the top 4 in the Grand Swiss wouldn't already be qualified for the World Cup in some other way.
